[50 Ways Of Being A Revolutionary - Day 001 ]

So here we are. The start of something epic (in our opinions at least). What started out as a simple pamphlet we were going to send out evolved into this project here. So here's the rundown

50 days, 50 ways and tips on being a revolutionary or just all in all being a good person in this world.
50 days, 50 simple black and white sketches cooked up by Smack (that's me), all inspired by comic artist Skottie Young.

So along with this AND the weekly strips, I guess you could say this is our late Christmas present to you, the fans. So without further stalling, let's get into this...

Way #01 - Wear All Black Everyday (even on Christmas)

[Smack's Video Opium - Metal Men x Evil Taxi x

What's good, Revolutionaries? Smack here. I know it's been a while since we even touched the blog but that's because we've been steadily promoting the strip. We've got a portfolio set up and ready to send out to the higher ups because we're ready for The Revolutionary Times to get some shine.

Iron Man 2

No explanation is needed for this one. The first film brought back magic to the Marvel's side of the film industry when it was fail-tastic films like Spider-Man 3, Ghost Rider, and the Fantastic Four series. So there's no wonder to why its sequel is just as anticipated. The trailer still shows off the same charm of the first installment, but it looks like they stepping things up with the introduction of Mickey Rourke's character Whiplash and Scarlett Johansson as the sultry Black Widow. Plus Don Cheadle finally dons the War Machine armor that Terrance Howard only could drool at. Come on, now. Let's go!

Ro Spit x Monica Blaire - Renaissance State of Mind

Detroit spitter and Burn Rubber co-owner Ro Spit teamed up with the energetic Monica Blaire to put out their own rendition of the Jay-Z/Alicia Keys collabo "Empire State of Mind" to show the awesomeness that is Detroit. Now, thanks to VANDAL the world gets a visual to Ro's words. With this, the song that started out simply as a remake has just gained a life of its own. Whutupdoe!

Revolutionary Artist Videos - Skottie Young

Marvel Comics artist Skottie Young took time out of his day to show his process as he knocks out this sketch of the world's most misunderstood cab driver. Check out his site to see his daily sketch series "The Adventures of Bernard The World Destroyer," an inspiration to something we might be starting on the blog very soon.

Famous - Goddess Girl: The Movie

For eight weeks, hip-hopper Famous has hit the web with a viral campaign for the short film Goddess Girl. Along with the soundtrack, the final product's been put together and released to the public. Here's the official synopsis...
Goddess Girl is a short film written and directed by A&R as well as a soundtrack produced by Burd & Keyz. The film is split up into 8 short scenes which will be released weekly accompanied by a link to download the featured son from that scene. Starring Ashton “Famous” Bishop and Tassja Dawn, Goddess Girl is a tale of love, but there’s a thin line between love and obsession!

[Smack's Video Opium: DJ Hero x Kick-Ass x More

DJ Hero Intro

DJ Hero's been out and no, I have yet to get my hands on it. Now I'm not really much of a fan of the Guitar Hero series (only because I don't have it) but with a diverse collection of music from the likes of Pac, Moterhead, The Jackson 5, Kid Cudi, and others - and not to mention that Jay-Z and Eminem personally had a hand in it - that was enough to make me want this. This intro however only signifies how dope this game really must be. One day, I will know. One day...

Kick-Ass - Teaser Trailer

And now a movie adaptaption of a comic book series that ain't even finished the storyline the actual film is based off of. Since its release, I've been a fan of the ultra violent coming to age (HA!) series penned by Mark Miller and illustrated (with awesome) by John Romita Jr. So to have a movie that keeps in tone with the actual series (no sissies in the movie. Not if it's R-Rated), then I'm all for it. HOPEFULLY though, the last issue of the series will be out well before the movie is released. Hopefully.

Jared Evan - "Frozen" (directed by Rik Cordero)

Rik Cordero is steadily becoming one of my favorite video directors in the game right now and this video just helps proves. Inspired by the cult French film 13 Tazameti, the starking visuals and concepts go well along with Jared Evan's haunting song.

(Sidenote: Hollywoood's making a remake of the movie....starring 50 Cent and Jason Stratham.) That is all.)

BONUS:
Here's the trailer for the actual film.

BONUS: Inking 101 with Chris Houghton!

My good friend and fellow artist extraordinaire Chris Houghton has been doing his thing lately with his comic series Reed Gunther. So recently (ahem, this morning actually) he finally allowed the normies to take a view on how he does the magical things that he does with the art.

And why yes, this does cause me to have a bit of jealousy. Don't worry. Chris already is well aware of that.

Well that's my spill. Now back to your regulary scheduled revolutionary programming.
....I'll be over here watching How I Met Your Mother tho. It's a funny show. It's not for girls....shut up.

Knowledge from the West!!

(sorry for blurry pic taken on my phone)

I got a chance to see Dr. Cornel West speak at Winston Salem State University, it was the most amazing experience that I've had in a while. Dr. West spoke on topics like hip hop, president Obama, black identity and life. For those who haven't had the chance to hear him speak it was very insightful and entertaining.
Dr. West is a very deep brotha and very entertaining with his innuendos and movements. He talked briefly about how hip hop has been saturated with non-political and unconscious rappers because of its main consumers. He said the main consumers of hip hop music now would rather listen to Soulda Boy then KRS-One or Talib Kweli. That's a hard pill to swallow when you think about how much Hip Hop has influenced our culture and now its being taken over by whoever.
I can say I'm truly happy that I got see and hear one of the most influential black scholars of our time. Its was crazy experience when you see brotha West in the Matrix then you see him in person kind of surreal, but it lets me know I'm on the right track. Until next time my fellow revolutionaries....Peace and Knowledge (my Afrocentric moment for the week)

[Revolutionary Music: JYoung - "Black Nationalists"]

As a supporter and what he and fellow BLAT! Pack associate PHILTHY have been doing on the music scene lately, here's a treat for y'all. Here's the street single "Black Nationalists" (f. PHILTHY) off of the homie JYoung The General's upcoming project Jahshua 1:6. So why NOT give y'all a chance for a song that goes PERFECTLY for the Revolutionary Times? Do yourself a favor and download it immediately!

And why yes, I DID happen to do the cover.

Quote of the month

War for Riches...
"I spent 33 years in the Marines. Most of my time being a high-class muscle man for Big Business, for Wall Street and the bankers. In short, I was a racketeer for capitalism.”
